Elders, ELSEWHERE | Idyll and friction in landscape

From June 18th to September 5th the unique ELSEWHERE art route can be seen in all of the village centers of the municipality of Sint-Mintchielsgestel. Large billboards with surprising photographic views on the landscape will be up in 23 locations along the entrance roads as well as in Sint-Mintchielsgestel. Nineteen photographers, well known both nationally & internationally, will display landscapes - often from beyond our borders, from elsewhere - in which idyll and friction form the central theme. The photos show landscapes which represent our dream of the untouched, pure landscape, comment on this or demonstrate it to be resolutely disturbed by human intervention.

Elsewhere invites the passer-by to view this interplay between local countryside and the photographic landscape elsewhere through fresh eyes.

Following on from its 2009 outing at Suffolk’s Latitude Festival & The London Art Fair, London in January 2010, UK based photographic artist Tim Simmons brings his large-scale projection to Fermynwoods at the unique setting of the Danish Shelters within Fermyn Woods.

Shown adjacent to the Danish Shelters the evening projection examines the multilayered relationship we have with our surroundings, & how subtle changes to our expectation of a place alter our perception of it.

Continuing his ongoing installation series INTERVENTION, projected, UK based photographic artist Tim Simmons showcases his ethereal large- scale landscapes with three further events this summer.

Tim’s work examines the multi-layered relationship we have with our natural environment. He captures a world that is raw and primordial, and recreates it as something intensely intimate. From Devon rock pools to volcanic Icelandic landscapes, the earth at its most elemental seems to take on a life of its own; the inanimate becomes animate, almost pulsing with a sense of hushed expectation. It is this surreal, otherworldly quality that defines Tim’s work. His imagery elicits an immediate, visceral response, the illusive atmosphere inspiring quiet reflection, and prompting questions about mortality and he fragility of our planet.

Presented after dark on a freestanding 20’x15’ screen, INTERVENTION, projected will be showing at the following venues in July:
